When Totnes resident Candy Medwin takes a strange and antique figurine to be valued at the Guildhall, she meets charismatic and intelligent Perry Barr.  She also meets the anything but charismatic Jack Eaglesham, who from the moment he breaks into her house seems determined to make a nuisance of himself.  Before long Candy finds herself in an unlikely and highly unofficial alliance with undercover police, enmeshed in a maelstrom of danger and atrocious weather, submerged (in more ways than one) in ancient British history two-and-a-half thousand years old--and right in the path of a greedy, desperate man.
